Monday, Day 86 -  Apr 2 - Cruising the Indian Ocean

Our final sea day before six days in South Africa! It is sunny and warm on the deep blue sea today. There is a breeze and some gentle rocking of the ship. Dick is up at 5AM for some reason...he says it is all the setting the clock back recently. Carolyn on the other hand sleeps until about 10:15AM! She skips breakfast and Dick gets some cold cereal in the Coffee Connection.

Sarah and Julie are off today so no card classes, but the regular morning mind and deck games are happening, There are three gambling tournaments this afternoon and the three lecturers are speaking during the day plus the usual beauty and jewelry talks and gym activities and Bridge! No way one can be bored because there is always Carolyn’s favorite pastime...reading..er..napping on the balcony!

Terry talks on “The Boer War - To the Bitter End”...... A topic of interest to Dick! Michael Scott speaks on “East London and Beyond” which Dick stays for in high hopes of learning more about the port, but Scott spends the first 15 to 20 minutes talking about birds he has seen from the ship in the last 24 hours which sends Dick back to the room. This happens often during his speaking time, he gets really off topic. In the afternoon Dick goes to Don Walsh’s talk on “A Dive to the Wreak of the WWII German Battleship Bismarck - Three Miles Deep in the Atlantic.” Again this is a topic of interest for Dick as he promises some video of the dive.

The main reason that the card classes are out today is the Galley Lunch Buffet in the Compass Rose where the classes meet. This is a favorite special treat the Chef does on longer cruises. It is a lot of work for the staff since they serve from the kitchen that has been decorated to the nines! The food displays are a work of art. The kitchen is open for pictures at 11AM and the serving is from 11:30AM until 1:30PM. Dick and Carolyn go about noon and enjoy lot of different delicious bites.

This evening we go for cocktails and listen to Clive play in the Navigator lounge before dinner then Carolyn is determined to stay up and see Terry’s after-dinner show.

  1. Absolutely stunning displays of food! What is the enormous piece of meat in the sixth-to-last picture? The food looks too good to eat...I bet everything was delicious!

  2. We love these lunches...the food is wonderful at them. But all the food has been very good so far. We each have our favorites as you can probably tell.

The meat is a Steamship Round of Beef and is served like prime rib with horseradish sauce and au jus. It is a wonderful presentation and very good!
