Monday, Day 93 - April 9 - Cruising the Atlantic Ocean

We rock and roll all night. Dick is up early and heads to coffee with the paper. He knows Carolyn plans to sleep in so he goes on to breakfast and to the Town Hall meeting with the CEO of Regent who is on board for a few days to visit with the guests. It is a question and answer format with many people airing their frustrations with Regent. There really aren’t many “just positive comments” at this meeting. He spends his time repeating over and over, “I am sorry that should not have happened" and "I will look into it” or, “That is policy but we will talk about it and see if there can be some adjustment.”

By far the greatest complaints are about the poor vetting of the tours on this trip. The special event in Richards Bay was brought up several times and he admits he has read several reports about the problems. He apologizes and says that Regent is going to make it up to us in Buenos Aires with that third event. The complaints range from not running on time to guides that talk non-stop to poor sites, venues and guides. He explains that there is a company that provides the tours for all three lines, but that they have formed a secondary group to work on vetting the tours used by Regent to be sure they are suitable for Regent’s customers.

The other hot button item is the poor internet.  He says they are working on that. That there are several issues ranging from the wiring on the older ships to the provider not delivering what it promised.

Dick goes for Terry’s lecture on Namibia. Meanwhile Carolyn gets up and goes to the Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle at 11AM in the Stars Lounge. It is very nice and 10 of the 12 people signed up come by, some staying for the whole time. The missing couple is on a ship sponsored safari in Namibia. The Captain drops in and chats for about 15 minutes. He really has a funny sense of humor. Several other staff members come by. Dick joins us when the lecture is over and the group finally breaks up after 12:30PM. Everyone is very talkative today. Fun meeting...Thanks Regent.

Dick goes up to the Pool Deck for the fish BBQ and Carolyn goes to the dining room for her favorite quiche. Then at 2:30PM she meets Julie and the card group to make another card.
Back in the room Dick plays on the computer and Carolyn struggles to get the Cape Town Blog posted.

It is the Captain's Welcome Party tonight at 6PM so we get dressed up and head to the theater, but as we pass the Navigator Lounge, Clive’s piano music calls to us and we turn around and go sit down to listen to him. Two drinks and snacks later we are invited to have dinner with Jeanie, the 93 year old lady that is the bell of the ball. She is traveling alone and is between homes right now. She uses a walker and has been on many of the tours with us. She climbed Signal Hill with us the other night as an example.

We have a nice meal together with entirely too much good French wine thanks to Jeanie. About 9PM, we walk her back to the Navigator Bar and Clive’s music then we head to bed. No way can we keep up with her!!!
