Sunday, Day 99 - Apr 15 - Cruising the Atlantic Ocean

With the clock being turned back we are up early to head to breakfast when the dining room opens at 8AM. Jamie’s church service is at 9AM so this works out well. Also, since it is Sunday we have caviar and mimosas available. They had almond croissants the other day for only the second time that we can remember. They were wonderful so Carolyn asked our head waiter if we could have a standing order for two each morning. He said, of course, that the kitchen actually makes them one day a week anyway. So this morning our two almond croissants show up...wonderful! We have a very nice big breakfast before heading to Jamie’s very nice church service.

Dick stays to listen to Don Walsh speak on “Lunch on the Titanic Two Miles Deep in the Atlantic.” Don has done several dives to the ship. He is retired navy and at one point worked for a company that did adventure diving. For $35,000 one can do a seven hour dive to the Titanic! He had one customer who did it three times!!!

Carolyn works on getting the blog caught up as there is no card class with Sarah this morning. At 11AM Michael Scott talks about his experience with Tristan da Cunha, “Confessions of a Tristan Widower.” Neither of us go, but we might watch it later on TV since we will not actually get to see the island.

By noon the seas have really calmed down and it is a beautiful, balcony sitting day!. The captain made a good call to stay north of Tristan. We still have long rollers of 3 to 4 feet, but they are not causing too much motion. Wind speed is 15 knots and we are located at 26 degrees S, 5 degrees W. The ocean depth is 14,000 feet. We crossed back into the Western Hemisphere last night and are 2,069 miles from South America.
Carolyn goes to the dining room for lunch and then on to cards with Julie making sure she gets there early! We make a card sporting a window box and use the paper punches to make things to fill the window box and decorate the window. It is a cute idea, but just chaos in practice because there are not enough punches to go around for such a large group. Everyone is pushing and grabbing and in a rush to finish and get to tea time. The class was just OK today.
There is a pre dinner show again tonight. Terry does another of his dramatic presentations, “Fallen Star - The Last Days of Napoleon”. It is very good. He is so extremely talented!!

From there we head down to the Navigator Bar for a drink and to listen to Clive before going to Sette Mari for some Italian food. Well fed and thoroughly entertained we head to bed!
