Friday, Day 104 - Apr 20 - Cruising the Atlantic Ocean

Another uncomfortable night, our room is still too warm. We only have two more sea days. People are getting restless and a bit grouchy. But the sea is much calmer so that should help everyone’s attitude!

We do our usual morning activities Terry’s lecture, “Battle of the River Platte, The hunt for the Graf Spee" and its demise off Montevideo and Quilling with Sarah.

At 10:15AM they do a Crew Drill, Life raft inflation. Carolyn goes to watch. They do this drill quarterly and usually in port. But today they are doing it in the pool so we can see and be entertained with something different. It is interesting as we have never seen one of the life rafts inflating. The ship has to have life boats for 125% of the maximum capacity of the ship. There are seats for 496 in the regular lifeboats and then there are these rafts that carry 25 people each.  Most of the crew is lined up around deck 11 and 12 as they have to watch. Four crewmen and the Safety Officer are demonstrating a wet entry of the life raft today. Just to clarify. A wet entry is when the life raft has been dumped into the sea and the passengers and crew are told to step off the side of the ship into the sea and then the crew sets up the raft and rescues the passengers bobbing around in the water! Let’s just say we hope we never experience this in real life!!!

Our travel agency has a host couple on this segment and at noon they have a very nice formal lunch for the 38 of us. It is very well done by the staff and the food is good!
In the afternoon, Dick plays on the computer and listens to his book while Carolyn goes to Julie's card class and then reads.

After the huge lunch we are not hungry, but we have Prime 7 reservation, made before we boarded. We go listen to Clive in the Navigator Lounge and have a cocktail then head to Prime 7 at 7PM.  It is good as always and we manage to eat every bite! Dick has lamb chops and Carolyn has the crab cake. The sea is much calmer tonight and there is just a little sliver of moon, Since we can hardly keep our eyes open we set the clocks back another hour and turn in.
