Wednesday, Day 81 -  Mar 28 - Cruising the Indian Ocean

The seas calmed down during the night and we wake to an oiled glass look on the ocean surface. We love this look and it doesn’t happen often. Another sea day and our regular routine of breakfast. Lectures and card classes. Terry talks on “FitzRoy Darwin and Beagle - The Great Discoveries and Circumnavigation, Darwin in Mauritius” and Michael Scott talks on “Reunion and Beyond”. Sarah teaches another class on origami flowers.
At noon the captain gives his daily update. The seas are still rather oily but he tells us we have long rolling swells of 5 feet. This gives the ship a rather pleasant motion similar to the motion of the merry-go-round horses. People are still complaining of motion sickness. Today the ship is in 14,000 feet of water. About this time the ship passes though a school of flying fish which sends everyone to the windows and deck railings.

There is a fish buffet on the pool deck so Dick goes up there for some fish. Carolyn goes to the Compass Rose for French onion soup.

Carolyn goes to the afternoon card class where Julie shows us how to make an elephant card. Everybody seems to like this card. Oh, a third husband joined us today.

Dick goes to his third lecture of the day, Don Walsh’s “Piracy in the Indian Ocean”. He is back in 10 minutes saying the guy needs to work on his content. He apparently started off saying the men attacking the ships today are using muskets! Really, is this 1776 or 2018? Usually the ships like Seabourn Regent and Cunard have good speakers, but there is always the one dud. Some people don’t seem to notice, but if you read the paper and listen to the news, the mistakes are so obvious!
Off the balcony later in the day.
Dick spends the rest of the afternoon reading while Carolyn struggles with finding a way to attach her flowers to her hat! The blog is suffering!
We go to dinner late for us, about 7:30PM, so we go up the Sette Mari for Italian. We have the veal scallopini in lemon sauce and it is excellent. We will have to remember this dish!
Tomorrow is Mauritius and we are looking forward to our day there. It is to be a beach day.
