Monday, Day 72 -  Mar. 19 - Cruising the Andaman Sea

Another morning of haze and humidity. Looking over the Passages we see that there are several things we want to do today plus the usual activities. We will be busy!

At 9:45AM, we both go to hear Terry’s  talk “So You Are Going to Sri Lanka and Know Nothing About Cricket!” The talk is a hoot and also informative. During the talk several of the wait staff demonstrate a game of cricket so we can get an idea of what Terry is talking about. It is really funny! Then at 11AM we have the Pirate Drill as we will be in dangerous waters from the 22nd until the 26th.
At 11:20AM Executive Chef Michael Meyepa does a cooking demonstration on fixing Vietnamese tuna and shrimp spring rolls with a dipping sauce and chicken and shrimp Dim Sum with a dipping sauce. Dick and Carolyn both go. He makes it look easy. We will have to try this when we get home as we both like spring rolls and Dim Sum.
There is a Dim Sum buffet on the Pool Deck from Noon to 2PM so we go about 1PM and enjoy a great lunch! Around 1:30PM the ship tilts to the port side as everyone rushes to that side to see some whales and several kinds of dolphins playing beside the ship. Apparently from what Michael Scott said yesterday we are in an area where there is a good chance to see whale and dolphins.
Julie is doing her card class at 2:30PM. Carolyn goes, but leaves early to join Dick for the 3PM lecture by Michael Scott on “So What Is So Special about Sri Lanka.” He gives us some information on the country and its history and talks about what we can see in Colombo. It is a good talk and the first one of its kind since we started this journey. This is the kind of lecture we should be having for each port to give us an idea of what there is to do and see.

At 5:15PM there is another pre-dinner show tonight, a championship ballroom dance team, Katia and Zenia do “Dance Fever.”  We thought about going, but don’t make it. There is also sunset music and cocktails on the Pool Deck at 6, but as hot as it is that just doesn’t appeal! But we do go to hear Clive play for a while before going to dinner. He is so good!

Dinner is low key tonight since we are still full of Dim Sum. There is no after dinner show tonight, just various types of music in the different bars. Clive, our favorite, is in the Navigator Lounge from 8:30PM to 10:30PM. We think about stopping, but it is another 30 minutes before he is scheduled to start and a prone position sounds too good!

Sri Lanka tomorrow.
