Thursday, Day 54 -  Mar 1 - Cruising the Indian Ocean.

The ocean has been surprisingly calm after all the bouncing we have done the last 50+ days. We are located at 16 degrees S and 116 degrees W heading to Komodo Island. The waves are moderate, the wind is 6 knots and the temperature is 81 degrees with hazy skies. The ocean floor is at 11,000 feet so we are in deep water again.

It is another sea day so we are doing our usual sea day routine: breakfast, lectures and quilling. This morning Bishop's talk is, “The Bounty - The Greatest Mutiny in History in Three Acts.” Then there is a special lecture by the guest concert pianist Pancos Karan, “Music Beyond the Concert Halls”.

The afternoon is filled with lunch for Carolyn and another card making class with more work with decoupage; this time a china doll in honor of the Chinese New Year. Dick goes to another of Eltaher’s lectures, “Deciphering the Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs.”

There is a Ship Wide Party like we had on the first segment where we meet in a set area for cocktails by country or state if there are more then five from the country or state or in groups by areas for all other countries or states. There are 34 Canadians, 32 Great Britain, 33 Australian, seven Hong Kong, five Switzerland, 274 from the US, with the most from California at 70, then Florida at 41 and Texas is next with 16. That is down from 20 something on the first segment. This is the smallest number of people so far.

Tonight Carolyn was able to get an extra reservation at Prime 7 before the segment started so we asked our Australian friends, Phil and Monica from Melbourne, to join us. Good food with good company equals a pleasant evening.

One more sea day tomorrow before Komodo Island.
