Wednesday, Day 74 - Mar 21 - Cruising the Laccadive Sea

We are waking up earlier and earlier. Since we left Singapore, we have set the clock back three hours. So we are waking up by 8 AM; even Carolyn!

It is another welcome sea day. The seas are oily calm this morning with very little breeze. While we are eating breakfast we notice all this trash floating in the water close to the ship....a lot of plastic bottles, Styrofoam pieces, flip flops etc. The wait staff say that boats in this part of the work just dump their trash over board. How disgusting.
Our waiter,  Mario, asked us if we would like to go to Prime 7 tonight, that Donald had some extra tables. We said yes since we don’t have another reservation until almost the end of this segment. To get the early time we like, we took a table for four and will share with some friends.

There are several activities this morning. At 10AM a new lecturer, Don Walsh,  is doing talk on “An Introduction to the Ocean World -The Sea Around Us.” They maybe need to get a new topic. This is the second talk on this topic this segment and at least the third for the world cruise. At 11AM, Michael Scott is doing a lecture on “What is so special About the Maldives”. Dick and Carolyn both go since his talk on Sri Lanka was very good as an overview. He had been to Colombo so he had pictures of areas to see. He has not been to the Maldives so he was using google earth and other sources for information. Since there is recent unrest there, he also spent a lot of the talk on the political situation. The talk was OK, but not as informative on what we might see. He did mention we might not want to swim off the island as they dump their sewage untreated directly into the ocean.

There is also the wine tasting for this segment at 10:45AM, but it interfered with the talks so we didn’t go.

The ship has a Tex-Mex buffet on the pool deck at noon so we go up to check it out and see if t is anything like the real Tex-Mex we eat all the time. This is kind of a running joke in our family. Well.....the tortillas looked right, but the rest not so much. The food tastes good, just not the taste of Tex-Mex.
Dick bought the extra internet package for the rest of the segment for $169 since he needs to update his games again so they will play. He needs the streaming to do that. He then spends the afternoon messing with that.

Carolyn goes to cards with Julie. She makes a butterfly card today. Back in the suite she plans to read, but as soon as she opens her book she is gone.

At 6:30PM we join our friends for our surprise Prime 7 reservation and enjoy a very pleasant evening.

  1. Not sure if it is the same Mario, but I suspect it is as last I heard he was on Navigator (last name Vinluan). We have cruised with Mario before and agree with you that he is a gem. In fact, if it is the same Mario, March 22 was his birthday! Wish him a belated happy birthday from Cindy & David!

  2. Yes, it is the same Mario. They had a surprise Birthday Party in his section the night of the 22nd and everyone in the Compass Rose sang happy Birthday to him. He is a wonderful waiter/person. Will relay you message.
