Tuesday, Day 45 - Feb. 20 - 8am to 7pm,  Port Lincoln, South Australia, Australia

Port Lincoln is located at the southern tip of South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula. The sweeping coastline of this bustling port offers a stunning natural setting. Port Lincoln proudly lays claim to the title of “Australia’s Seafood Capital” for having a vast variety of seafood harvested from the beautiful, pristine waters surrounding the Eyre Peninsula’s west coast. The town also offers museums, art galleries and some great fishing spots.

This is a new port for us. We had originally booked two short tours, one mid-morning and the other in the afternoon, thinking we could have a nice lunch in town between the two. But when we got our tickets for the tours, they had changed us to different times than Carolyn booked originally. We would now have to eat after the second tour. After yesterday’s lack of following the tour time schedule yet again, we bailed on both tours.

We have a leisurely breakfast and morning getting caught up on business, then head into town. Our only plan is to have a nice seafood lunch since Port Lincoln is known for their fresh seafoods. Thankfully, the port is running a shuttle into town since the dock is very long and we are tied up at the far end, plus it is about a half mile walk into downtown from the end of the pier.

We leave the ship about 12:30PM and take the little shuttle. We are the only passengers so the driver finds out what our plan is and drops us at the door of a seafood café. We have some good fish and chips made with whiting, a fresh caught local fish. The fish is flaky and very tasty. Afterwards we walk along the waterfront back to where the shuttle is picking up. The town is really more of a supply center for the area and is dominated by the fishing industry and harbor works. It is set on a nice bay with several coastal parks nearby.

Not long after our short trip into town, it starts raining so we are glad we didn't try to do much. Dick plays on the computer and reads while Carolyn gives into her recent illness and takes a nap the rest of the afternoon. We go to dinner in the Compass Rose since they are offering kangaroo steaks tonight and Dick likes that. Carolyn opts for lamb chops and we have a very nice meal.

We have two sea days coming up and the clock goes back another 30 minutes tonight.  We should be able to catch up on our rest!
