Sunday, Day 43 - Feb 18 - Cruising the Great Australian Bight

The skies are overcast  this morning and it is a little cool. The sea is smooth with 11 foot high, long rollers coming in on our side. Makes for interesting walking around. You might wonder, like we did, what a “Bight” is? According to Google, it is a large open bay on a coast line. The Australian Bight is hundreds of miles wide running from roughly east of Adelaide to near Albany on the southwestrern Australia coast.

We are operating on our sea day schedule. A nice breakfast which, since it is Sunday includes caviar. The lack of dinner last night has us up early, but then we forget about the church service starting a 9AM and miss it.

Dick goes to the 10 AM lecture “Bound for Botany Bay” by Terry Bishop. It is about the Penal Transportation and he says it is interesting. Bishop is a well liked speaker and entertainer on Regent.

Carolyn goes to her paper curling class and learns how to make colorful gift boxes out of the curled paper. The project is a cute birthday card. Sarah agrees we will spend the next sea day finishing up the boxes and any other cards...many of us still have missing pieces. The lady next to Carolyn has a huge pile of pieces, but no finished cards as she spent her time each class getting all the parts done, but never had time to glue any to the day’s card. Sarah is to bring all the project samples back next time so we can get organized before going to the next level.

There is a cooking class on crab dishes at the same time as curling, but Carolyn can’t get Dick to go. He says she knows how to make good crab cakes...what else is there!
They have loaded potato soup on the menu in the Compass Rose. We have Prime 7 reservations so don’t want to eat too much. We go to lunch just before they close at 1:30PM and have a bowl of the potato soup which is perfect!

There is another lecture this afternoon, but Dick is not interested in it. It is still overcast and cool, but the sea has smoothed out and is almost flat. Perfect for a deck nap. Carolyn moves outside and has a very restful afternoon.

The food at Prime 7 is very good, but the portions are huge. We decide not to stuff ourselves tonight. Starting with little Wygu beef slides from the chef, we have onion soup, a wedge salad and crab cakes. For dessert we have the Key lime pie. It is the perfect amount of food, for us anyway.

Tomorrow will be another long tour in Adelaide, so we head to bed.
