Wednesday,  Day 5, Jan. 10 - At Sea

During the night the seas calmed considerably. We wake to blue skies and a ship that is definitely moving but nothing really unusual for being on the ocean.

We head to breakfast and find the dining is very popular this morning.  While breakfast is very good, the staff and kitchen are off and service is slow, coffee refills are hard to get and Carolyn’s poached eggs show up cold. To add insult to injury, Dick’s pancakes come nice and hot but are cold by the time the waitress finds the syrup dispenser and gets it to the table. We send it all back for a do over and this time all is as it should be.

Carolyn goes back to the room to get the odds and ends put away. She finally finds a home for everything. The rest of the morning is spent working on the blog. She is having problems getting the pictures from the phone to the computer so she can post the pictures in the blog.
Dick goes to the lecture on Captain Cook’s explorations, but says it is not as interesting as some other Cook lectures we have heard. Andrew Jampoler’s presentation style is not to Dick’s taste so much. He is using slides that are hard to see.

At noon today we have traveled 690 miles. The ocean floor is 12,500 ft below us. Seas are 7 to 8 ft and winds are 15 to 20 knots. The ship is located at 28: 57', 58"N, 129: 25' 84"W.
About 1PM we venture to the La Veranda for lunch. It is a Tex-Mex buffet today. Being from Texas that is always like a joke! Carolyn gets a big salad and a small turkey sandwich. Dick has some of the Tex-Mex and said it was passable.

The afternoon has a full schedule of three different craft activities. Carolyn goes off to learn the art of paper curling. Then Dick joins her to learn how to make a lei. The class is taught by a cute, funny Japanese lady who goes by the name of June. Carolyn finishes hers and runs off to needlepoint, while Dick struggles to weave all 22 yards of ribbon into his lei. He is successful and now each of the bears are sporting leis!
At 6PM we decide to skip the Captain’s Welcome Party in favor of enjoying some of the wonderful piano music and a cocktail in the Navigator Lounge. We then head to dinner. Dick has the lamb and Carolyn has the steamed lobster from the always available menu. We have chocolate mousse for dessert. Dinner is good and so is the service. We talk about going to the show as we head back to the room. But the live entertainment loses to a movie in the room in our jammies.
