Sunday, Day 16 -  Jan 21 - Cruising the South Pacific Ocean

It is Sunday and that means champaign and caviar for breakfast! Dick has his and Carolyn’s share as she doesn’t care for ”fish eggs”. We are a little late for breakfast and are disappointed to learn that the church service has already started. We are not getting the daily program until we get up and open the door each morning so it is really hard to plan ahead of time for the next day.

This is the second time we have missed something we would have enjoyed. On the way back to the room we stop and ask about it. It has something to do with doing two different pages...one for the world cruisers and one for the segment people. Don’t think that is the problem because no one on our hallway gets anything until the next morning.
The front office person tells us she will get us the program for the segmenters...we will see tonight.

There is a lecture at 10AM on the musical life of Edith Piaf that Dick goes to see as well he one on the Russo-Japanese War while Carolyn goes to the Quilling class (paper curling) at 11 AM. Today we learn to make a bird in class.

At noon Bingo is offered and the AFC Championship game is broadcast in the theater. We skip these activities and check email before heading up to the Pool Deck for lunch outside. The sun is out and it is really rather pleasant outside for the South Pacific!

According to the Noon report we are at 1:30.575 S and 144: 03.03 W. The sea is at 14,700 feet. Temperature is 81 degrees, waves are 5 to 7 feet and wind is at 17.8 knots...much improved conditions! But the Captain does tell us we will be two hours late getting into Nuku Hiva due to the heavy seas the past three days. However not to worry, as we will delay departure two hours so all the tours can run.

Back in the suite Carolyn reads and Dick plays Civilization. Carolyn has talked Dick into going to June’s class this afternoon at 2:45PM. She has decorated Kukuli nuts to make bracelets. The bears want new jewelry! June has materials for both men’s and women’s bracelets. She really is popular and fills up half of the center section of the dining room. The bracelets turn out very nice.
Back in the suite Dick passes again on Trivia. Instead we watch some of the tour information on the TV, then get ready for dinner. We go early to the Navigator Lounge to get a seat and wait for Clive to start his set. On to dinner a little before 7PM and a nice meal of salmon and lobster. We have found a server we really like and have had the same table for four nights now. His name is Vishnu and is from India. He and his twin brother work adjoining stations.
The show sounds interesting, featuring a comedy piano entertainer, Tom Franek. Carolyn tells herself she is going...until she gets back to the suite and sees the inviting bed. It is just to hard to wait around until 9:30PM!
